Twitter, the social network that has revolutionized everything and constantly keeps us hooked on our smartphones, day and night, informing us of everything that happens in the world while entertaining us with simple short messages, all using the official application at first , but thankfully the developers have been creating alternative applications that complement the shortcomings of official and in many cases offer new features to improve the user experience. Let’s do a review of the best clients for Twitter.
Twitter: the official application
We start with the official client how could it be otherwise, Twitter has been responsible for improving it go little by little and after recent updates incorporating the Holo interface and gestures for navigating the content, rich notifications and improvements to share images still in first line with other customers. As we know, the application is divided into 4 sections: the Timeline, the column mentions and other interactions (retwitts, new followers, etc..) Discover column, where we can see the issues of the day, the activity of our supporters, recommendations etc.. And finally, our profile.

Ubersocial
Ubersocial is a great Twitter client for Android, formerly known as Twidroyd, has a clear interface, based on no less than 10 columns configurable , among which are the typical timeline. Mentions and Direct Messages but also find other less common as the Inner Circle, which only show the activity of the people you want , or Tweets Nearby column, Trends, Favorites, etc.. and we just have to swipe to move between them. has built-in browser to see the entire contents of the tweets without leaving the app and preview images.
In the settings section, has many settings for notifications, options to modify how messages are displayed on the timeline, shortening of URL’s, we can post on Facebook directly our tweets, many different color themes, etc.. Well a very, very full.
Robird
Robird has a hundred percent Holo interface , both white and black finish, with a speed and smoothness in transitions amazing, completely in Spanish, features and support push notifications TweetLonger , among other features. On the downside, it does not support multiple accounts , a minor detail if you only have one, although the developers promise this feature in future updates together with interface adapted to tablets.
The application is clean and is presented in a simple, only three columns (timeline, mentions and direct messages) and two buttons, one to write tweets and another search. Integrated browser has not but it does show the images directly. It costs € 1.53 in Google Play
Echofon
Echofon is iOS gained its popularity, and after his arrival in Android was gaining ground with a clear interface, fast and minimalist design with two themes, light and dark, and multi account support . Moreover, the application is not much more configurable , we can only choose the font size, the refresh interval and little else, has no internal browser or sound notifications .
It is available for free, but with an annoying banner ad at the top, and a paid version with a price of $2.99
twicca
Twicca is one of the most configurable Twitter clients and more customization you get at Play.It’s a very fast implementation , with an interface simple and intuitive , which consists only of four buttons on the bottom through which you access the timeline, mentions, DM’s and the last to update (do not have the typical pull to refresh).
Pressing the Menu of our device we show the remaining options: Retweets of our tweets, favorites, lists, search, our profile, etc.. If we go to the options menu we go crazy, we have plenty of adjustments for absolutely everything , really everything.
And if that were not enough, this client has a very special feature, which is that you can add plug-ins to find on Google Play for free that will expand the possibilities, eg translate with Google Translate tweets or shorten links with the plug- Karmacracy ins.
Plume
Plume is presented as a client for Twitter all in one, which is very hard to fault. visually has been renovated in recent versions , clearing the interface was once much more recharged by the current information, with smooth lines and new threads and typography. Its interface is presented by a system of columns among which we move through gestures .
By clicking on the upper right button (or swipe to right) shows the side menu that has spread among both applications, where we have easy access to search, favorites, trends, lists or our bills, because this does support more than one.
It features preview the images on the timeline and integrated browser. We also lets you manage columns displayed , adding, moving or removing as we want. In the Settings section about everything from adjusting the volume buttons to scroll or live streaming of tweets to vary the color of the messages who interests us, very complete.
I must admit that is one of my favorite clients, and if I have to put some sticks is that usually shows too often the message over-limit calls to Twitter overcome and that the premium version without ads, is too expensive .
Falcon Pro
Finally we have the client for Twitter created by Joaquim Vergès which we have already heard many times, both by the great application that is, for the constant problems he has had with the limitation of tokens (hits) that Twitter allows third-party applications. This has meant that the developer has had to remove it from Google Play and henceforth only be possible download from a web -enabled it, it prevents new users register having reached the maximum allowed, but at least it will still support and updates to existing ones.
As for the functions and features of this application on the latest updates from Falcon Pro was included multi-account support, new themes and icons , improved performance and other details along with the hard work done earlier, make it a very complete application , fast, smooth , with a sober and very nice interface, both on smartphones and on tablets, and perfectly usable only with gestures , with its side-down menus.
It has an integrated browser prompt with image and video preview and integration with Instapaper, among other features.
Again, no longer available in Play , so current users who want to stay current with updates should download android application from the following link , but Joaquim has reported that the news will not be as frequent as before.
And here this compilation of Twitter clients, you see the offer is very wide, there are many options like Tweetings, Tweetcaster, Hootsuite or Carbon (although it takes too long without updating) and some others that I have left out, that complement and even improve to the official implementation, although none becomes the perfect app for Android, all have their little details that will be decisive in our final choice based on our preferences, while still waiting one that makes a difference as does TweetBot for iOS .
What I do is a shame is the growing constraints imposed Twitter these magnificent alternative customers, getting the great work of the developers remain clouded by absurd conditions.
